What you should be doing to learn your language slightly quicker

One thing I get asked a lot, is how can I improve my English. Everyone asks it and everyone want to know it.

Even myself when I was learning Spanish, I wanted to learn quicker and be perfect. Well, I am afraid to say, unless you are EXTREMELY talented, there is no quick way to learn a language. It is a slow process....BUT, there are things you can do to make the process a little quicker.

Learning a language is mostly about confidence.  If you don't have confidence, you won't try to speak and if you don't try to speak you won't get better. It is that simple!!!

So, how can you speak without speaking to anyone?

One thing that I did when I was learning Spanish was to read. Now, I know what you may be thinking, you may be thinking that you read a lot. WEll there is a difference. You should read with your mouth - out loud. Yip, that's right, you need to talk while you read.

Think about it.

If you don't have a native speaker to talk to, why not speak with yourself. Reading is perfect as it get's you used to the sounds of the new language. and by speaking OUT LOUD, you are learning with your eyes, your mouth and also your ears. In fact, it is said that you can learn a new language 4 times faster by reading out loud. Understanding new words isn't too important as you can look them up for the meaning once you have finished, but the main focus should be on the sounds.

I have students who I always recommend this to. Most of them don't listen to my advice, I know this!!! However the ones that do and practice reading for 10 minutes in the morning and evening have come back to me telling me they feel as though they have improved on their English language skills.
